За тези които могат да четат на френски език, и разбират френски език, ето едно мое интервю с Frederic Merk от 17f. Интервюто е от преди няколко години, няколко месеца след издаването на дебюта Tree Of Them. Говорим за албума, за това какво го вдъхновява, и за музика. Насладете му се. Avant tout je veux te dire que "Three Of Them" et un album très intéressant et très bon album, « envoutant » et expérimental. Mes mots pour le décrire :
Contes, voyages, dévouement. Comment le décris-tu ?
Bonjour Kiril et merci beaucoup pour cette interview ! Je décrirais cet album comme étant très personnel, libre et sincère.
Quelles sont tes inspirations pour écrire de si belles compositions ? Film, montagnes ou les gens, la musique ?
L’inspiration est quelque chose qui va et qui vient. Elle me permet d’exprimer ce que je vis. Je n’arrive pas toujours à dire ce qui va et ce qui ne va pas dans ma vie. Avec le musique c’est plus simple.
Dis quelques mots sur toi-même.
Je suis un musicien, j’ai bientôt 40 ans et depuis toujours j’ai rêvé de faire un disque. Aujourd’hui ce rêve est devenu réalité.
Parle-moi de l’enregistrement. Où, quel studio, qui sont les autres musiciens du groupe ? et ceux ayant participé à l’album ?
J’ai enregistré cet album dans un studio que je partage avec d’autres musiciens. Ce studio s’appelle le Studio 603, il est à Vevey (en Suisse). Un ami (Julien Grandjean) a enregistré les batteries car c’est plus compliqué à faire. Et puis j’ai réalisé une partie des enregistrements à la maison.
Je veux aussi flatter le travail des autres musiciens qui ont participé à l’album.
Batterie, sax, basse, toute la production est magnifique. Font-ils partie d’autres projets ou groupes ? (si oui lesquelles) ou sont-ils juste commis pour 17F ?
Je leur dirais ! Julien Granjean et Arnaud Sponar font partie du groupe Opak qu’il faut absolument écouter ! Arnaud Sponar fait un projet solo qui s’appelle « Goodbye Ivan » qui est un magnifique projet. Laurent Jaussi fait partie d’un groupe un peu plus pop qui s’appelle « Girls in the Kitchen ». C’est un groupe qui fait de la musique électro avec des mélodies très éfficaces. Ils viennent de sortir un album que je te conseille d’écouter ! Michael Frei, Gerald Rochat et Tassilo Jüdt font partie du groupe « Hemlock Smith » avec lequel je collabore parfois. Et puis Kudsi Erguner est un grand maître sufi qui joue de la flûte « ney ». Il est mondialement connu pour avoir travaillé avec Peter Gabriel.
Pour le style, comment détermines –tu un coût de 17F ?
Je dirais que le style de cet album est psychédélique, ambient ou post-rock.
Tu viens de Suisse, je sais qu’en Suisse et Amérique, les groupes post rock et les groupes rock instrumental font un boom et certains sont très populaires.
Dis-moi quelle est la situation dans ton pays et quels groupes mériteraient qu’on s’y intéresse ?
Il y a énormément de musiciens et de groupes en Suisse, dans tous les styles. Je te conseillerais d’écouter « Ventura », « Opak », « Goodbye Ivan », « Hmlock Smith » ou encore « les poissons autistes ».
Confie –moi quelle musique tu écoutes ? Qu’est ce qui t’as « attrapé », marqué dernièrement ?
J’écoute actuellement surtout des song-writters. J’ai beaucoup été influencé par David Bowie, PInk Floyd ou The Cure. Le dernier disque qui m’a attrapé est le disque d’un musicien qui s’appelle TE Morris son album s’appelle « An Ocean Is Enough To Love ».
Comment composes-tu tes chansons ? Qu’est ce qui vient en premier à ton esprit/inspiration ? Les cithares, les claviers, les paroles...ou autre chose ?
En général je commence mes chansons par un son (synthétiseur, guitare, piano). Ensuite je construis une chanson petit à petit, une piste après l’autre. Mais pour chaque chanson c’est différent. Je fais beaucoup de chanson et je jette la plupart des compositions. Je ne garde que les chansons qui me plaisent.

Sur la couverture du disque tu dédies ton album à tes parents qui ne sont plus parmi nous. De la même manière il est dédié à ton fils. Tu dis qu’ils sont «trois d’entre eux ».Parle moi un peu de tes parents quels gens étaient-ils ? Et ton fils ? Il t’écoute (t’obéit) ? :)
Mes parents ont les deux beaucoup soufferts pendant la deuxième guerre mondiale. Ma maman était Italienne et mon père est né en France. Ils ont fondé une famille avec trois enfants. J’ai deux grandes sœurs. Ils nous ont élevé courageusement mais son mort les deux assez jeunes. Ils me manquent souvent. Mon fils est très gentil et je m’entends très bien avec lui. Il est doux et très sensible, je l’aime plus que tout.
La couverture est très belle et intéressante. Trois figures y sont représentées, à l’intérieur desquelles vives des arbres dont les branches sont comme des veines qui se redressent. C’est comme si cela symboliserait la vie, la force de vie, la volonté de vie. Deux des figures seraient tes parents et la plus petite ton fils. C’est ainsi que je me l’imagine. Dis-moi ce que cette image symbolise pour toi ?
C’est exactement ce que cela veut dire Kiril !
La couverture a été réalisée par Jean-Jacques Moreillon un artiste Suisse qui fait des tableaux très grands et très impressionnants.
Le disque est fait et soutenu par le département culturel de la ville de Vevey et le ministère de la culture. Ce soutien de l’Etat pour ses artistes est louable et ceci peut servir d’exemple aux personnes qui occupent des postes élevés au sain du gouvernement de notre pays à payer plus et à encourager les artistes. Quel à été leurs soutien véritablement?
Ils m’ont aidé pour payer les frais de mon disque. Et lorsque l’on parle de mon disque en Bulgarie (ou autre part) cela fait de la publicité à ma ville Vevey. C’est positif pour eux et pour moi. J’encourage les autorités Bulgare à aider les artistes lorsque c’est possible.
Parlons des chansons de l’album. Elles sont au nombre de 7. Sept est mon numéro préféré comme cet album d’ailleurs ! Quelle est l’histoire derrière la cosmique "Aiga II". Vraie de ta vie ou une histoire bien racontée ? Cette chanson est un unique post rock ambiant rock trip pour moi. Je décolle carrément. Franchement.
Merci Kiril pour tous ces compliments ! Aiga parle des gens qui sont morts et qui nous manquent. Aiga c’est le nom d’une rivière qui sépare le monde des vivants et le monde des morts ( J’ai inventé ce nom). C’est aussi le nom d’une soupe que l’on mange lorsque l’on a trop bu, avec de l’ail, du pain et de l’huile. C’est une soupe que faisaient les paysans il y a longtemps. Ma mère vient d’une famille de paysan et j’aime cette soupe. Aiga c’est un mélange de tous ces souvenirs.
Peut-être est-elle dédiée à quelqu’un ? Elle est comme une belle comédie romantique légèrement dramatique. Et quelles paroles :"It seems like i grew up empty". Elle est unique. Et le sax vit sa propre vie, velouté, passionné. A qui est la voix qui raconte cette histoire ?
Merci encore ! Je chante la première partie et ensuite Michael Frei du groupe « Hmlcok Smith » raconte une histoire. Il dit que peu importe le nom que l’on donne aux choses ce qui compte c’est l’amour qui nous unit les uns aux autres.
Moi qui ai toujours voulu jouer de la batterie, les rythmes de « Aiga II » me donne beaucoup de joie. et "Receipt".Chemin vers le cosmique, le groove, agréablement arrangé, solide. Ils sont écrits par Arnaud Sponar le multi instrumentaliste, c’est ca ? Dis quelque chose à propos de lui et les projets dans lesquels il joue. Goodbye Ivan et Opak.
Je dirais ça à Arnaud il sera content ! C’est un ami et j’adore comment il joue de la batterie. Il joue avec Julien Grandjean dans Opak. Ils font une musique incroyable et en concert c’est un groupe extraordinaire. Arnaud va bientôt sortir un disque sur lequel j’ai un peu travaillé aussi. Je te dirais lorsqu’il sortira car il est fantastique. Arnaud est quelqu’un de très généreux et très très doué. J’étais heureux qu’il accepte de participer à mon disque.

"Le Nain II" est quelque chose comme du Word, post rock introduit de jam session ou l’on est emmené dans des beautés qui se suivent et qui déchargent chacun. Dis quelque chose sur le sample du film "Beautifull" de Kim.Ki Duk qui est utilisé dedans. Je t’avoue que je n’ai pas entendu parler de lui ?
Kim Ki Duk est Coréen et fait des films très poétiques. Son film le plus connu est « printemps, été, automnes ». Il raconte des histoires ou on ne comprend pas toujours tout mais on rêve beaucoup devant ses films.
Je veux te dire que quand j’écoute « For A While » j’ai la chair de poule. Une chanson exceptionnelle. Le piano, la mélodie tout me conduit à sentir la musique. Quelle est l’histoire derrière elle ?
Merci encore une fois ! J’ai écris cette chanson après avoir lu le livre de Gregory Mac Donald appelé « The Brave ». C’est l’histoire d’un homme qui pour nourrir sa famille décide de mourir dans un « snuff movie ». Juste avant de mourir il fait l’amour dans une rivière avec sa femme. C’est un moment exceptionnel de calme avant la mort. C’est ça que je voulais décrire.

La dernière chanson de l’album qui ne dure que 2 min (j’aimerai qu’elle ne s’arrête jamais, mais je peu la répéter souvent !) elle est tellement chou. Tu joue les guitares et elles sonnent c’est époustouflant ! Dis-moi quel est ton ange ?
Cette chanson est un petit poème. Cela dit que tout le monde se ressemble, mais que l’amour que l’on peut ressentir pour quelqu’un ou pour quelque chose nous rend unique. Mon ange c’est mon amie Caroline, mon fils Loun,et la musique.

On dirait que « Angel » souligne ta capacité à créer d’exceptionnelles mélodies. Je me permets de la comparer par son atmosphère à « Hurt » de Nine inch Nails. C’est dans cette direction qu’elle m’amène.

L’album semble être avec une fin ouverte, j’ai hâte d’entendre le prochain. Tu m’a dis que tu travaille déjà dessus et qu’il sera plus acoustique. Quelque chose dans la lignée de « Angel » ?
L’album que je prépare est à l’opposé de « tree of them ». Il n’y aura que des instruments acoustiques. Guitares, flûtes, harmonica. Je vais tout faire tout seul sauf quelques voix. Tous les morceaux sont très courts et très simples, très bizarres. Je l’ai ai enregistré à la maison.

Ici en Bulgarie le post rock et expérimental rock gagne en popularité, mais on dirait qu’il n’y a pas encore beaucoup de fan. J’aurais voulu inciter les gens à l’acheter pour 17F. Avec quel morceau de l’album faudrait-il commencer ? Pour moi tous sont excellent et aucun n’est « faible » mais toi en tant que guide dans cette beauté, avec lequel faudrait-il commencer ?

Tricky отново представи отдаденост вечерта на 09.04.2014 година, на сцената в Зала 3 на НДК, концерт организиран от EventEase. Поздравления за тях, че направиха неговото идване възможно. А аз подскачах носен от ритъма на музиката, танцувах, не, бях в транс, беше прекрасно. Чувствах музиката. Протичаше усещане за съпричастност, за задушевност в същото време. Танцувах и реагирах на музиката от сцената, приемах всяко едно движение на Tricky и Francesca на сцената. И за това бях на концерта. За Tricky, за себе си, за музиката. За усещанията, за това да чувствам извън общоприетото, тренда или каквото и да било. Можеш ли да го приемеш, можеш ли да го разбереш, това е неподправения бристолски гуру, и той е такъв какъвто е, магичен и неподражаем, аз отдавна съм го приел. А това, че беше взискателен по отношение на звук, и сцена, и го показа, си е негово лично право, така трябва да бъде, за да се вдига нивото за в бъдеще. Just in this moment "You Can't Bring Me Down" on Suicidal (I remember more other groups and songs, that are appropriate, but right now are Suicidal Tendencies) to play - for the old years, for the old acquaintances, for the time. For me, for what I am. For mistakes, that learns me to be I, to be only myself, and to don't give up. For self-discovery. For this, that I'm not gone (physically and mentally). It's Tricky Time (English)

Yes, for some time you are not a witness of an activity in my blog. But this should not surprise you, there will be such moments. For some maybe I'm missed, and other secretly had hoped, I to have forgotten how to write, to become demented to the point of no return, or something more extreme. This with break of a habit of my writing can not happen. This is for life, and can not be stopped. This is for those who doubt and hope for a "black" scenarios regarding of my writing skills, you will be extremely busy to be disappointed. But that is not a semantics at this point. Tricky is here, again. His brand new album "False Idols", waiting for me to "dive" deep into trip-hop atmosphere, which creates unequalled, the guru Tricky. And I say this without an ounce of pathetic, just pure feelings, resulting of the music. The Music of Tricky. Because as you know if you're familiar with his work, he has the ability to "enchant" you into his own world via his music. And isn't this one of the greatest magics of music. And it can not be otherwise. At Tricky this is constant, want it or not. Just you are "get into it", and your mind "travel". Sometimes this "trip" can be so real, as to find yourself surprised what world you live in. Are you here or you are somewhere far away. This is one of the strong parts in his music. Here such thoughts emerge in my mind, because I know, the music of Tricky, will not let me down, never. N-e-v-e-r. Да, от известно време не си свидетел на дейност в блога ми. Но това не бива да те учудва, ще има и такива моменти. На някои може би съм липсвал, други тайничко са се надявали, да съм забравил как се пише, да съм се бъгнал необратимо, или нещо още по-крайно. Това с отвикването ми от писане няма как да стане. Това е до живот, и няма как да спре. Това е за тези които се съмняват и се надяват на "черни" сценарии относно писането ми, ще бъдете крайно заети да сте разочаровани. Но не това е семантиката в този момент. Точно сега ще променя леката стагнация. Повода е прекрасен. Има един хубав албум който вече е издаден, и можеш да си го купиш. И по-точно - за Европа и останалите части на света датата на издаване е 27 май 2013 година, за САЩ датата е 28 май 2013 година. И това е, точно така правилно си разбрал/а. Tricky е тук, отново. Чисто новия му албум "False Idols", ме очаква да се "гмурна" дълбоко в trip-hop атмосферата която създава ненадминатия, гуруто Tricky. И това го казвам без грам патетика, просто чисти чувства, породени от музиката. Музиката на Tricky. Защото както знаеш, ако си запознат с творчеството му, той има способността да те "увлича" в неговия свят чрез музиката си. А не е ли това една от най-големите магии на музиката. И няма как да е иначе. При Tricky това е константа, искаш или не. Просто си въвлечен, и ума ти "пътува". Понякога това "пътешествие" може да бъде толкова истинско, че да се учудиш в кой свят живееш. Тук ли си или някъде надалеч. Това е една от силните страни в музиката му. Ето такива мисли изникват в ума ми, защото знам, че музиката на Tricky няма да ме разочарова, никога. N-e-v-e-r. Музиката му винаги идва сякаш от едни много дълбоки кътчета в съзнанието и подсъзнанието. И винаги "грабва", "хваща", или както искаш го наречи. Защото това нещо се чувства. Музиката му се съпреживява. Предвид и ако си бил/а на негов концерт, така както съм бил аз, разбираш за какво ти говоря. Yes, this Music touches. Touches where is hidden talents, dreams, everything that makes you different, unique and only. I got a feeling, that this song which I'm write about now "Ruins", I can listen to it all day, without feeling tired and none, revealing new details in it, appearing with each next listening. Here is the review written on bulgarian language.
This their single contains two versions of that song. In particular original version and the radio edit. A bass voice of Tobi O'Kandi, only compare it with that of Peter Steele of Type O Negative. Expressive, deep, emotionally charged, giving a realistic sound of the lyrics.
"Ruins" (Original Version) is like a heavier version, extracted from the works of great The Cure. Melancholy and realization. Post-punk, new wave, electro. And baaang. Beauty. Exciting, this must being heard. Good musicians, recreating one such deep emotions. Very well written catchy music. You can be found yourself in them music, can feel pain in yourself, but finally remain the Music.

For several days now, reign full mess and total eclipse in Bulgaria. Falseness, political, ego crisis, paranoid wars between politics. I do not want this, seriously. This is not my thing. I trust only myself. Art suffers, but from the other side, from this will being born many beautiful things in art direction, I'm pretty sure. The risk to feel constantly under hidden observation is depressing, psychotic, it is not an illusion, I think that this is how falsely accused person feels on his first day of his entrance in the penitentiary institution. Full shock, psychiatric shock. The problems on social and institutional level is much more serious, but I do not want to go into analysis. Many things remains beneath heavily waterlogged swamp, hopefully, it will soon all come to the surface, to the people's minds. In moments like this I want citizenship in another country, hell, right now, on the moment. And I don't stop feeling like that, until the moment when I feel, just like that, to feel, I for myself, that I'm really secure about my existence, about my certainty, about that my rights as a citizen to receive a proper respect and attitude, about my development in the future, here in Bulgaria. I'm really scared about the future, seriously. I want a strong, open-minded society, not "lab rat", with all due respect to thеsе animals. We'll (people who think with our minds) get through this, and we'll find the right way like a champs. And there will always be music, however, whatever happens. Listen To Your Head And Mind In It

От няколко дни насам, цари пълна обърквация в България. Лицемерие, политически, его кризи, параноидни воини между политици. Аз не искам това, сериозно. Това не е моето нещо. Вярвам единствено на себе си. Изкуството страда, но от друга страна това ще роди много хубави неща в арт насока, сигурен съм. Риска да се чувствам постоянно като че съм под скрито наблюдение е подтискащ, психотичен, не това не е илюзия, мисля си, че така се чувства несправедливо обвинен човек при първия си ден от постъпването си в съответното наказателно заведение. Пълен шок, психиатричен шок. Проблемите на социално и институционално ниво са много по-сериозни, но не искам да изпадам в анализи. В моменти като този аз желая гражданство в друга държава, по дяволите, сега, веднага, на мига. И няма да спра да се чувствам така, докато не усетя, точно така усетя, аз за себе си, че мога наистина да съм сигурен за съществуването си, за сигурността си, за това да получавам необходимото внимание и отношение на правата ми като гражданин, за развитието си в бъдеще, тук в България. Наистина съм уплашен за бъдещето, сериозно. Искам силно, open-minded общество, не "лабораторни мишки", с цялото ми уважение към тези животинки. Ние (хората които мислим с ума си) ще излезнем от това, и ще намерим верния път като шампиони. И винаги ще има музика, обаче, каквото и да става. А какво щеше да бъде, ако всички които обичаме - роднини, познати или хора които са ни били някак си за пример, се върнат от там, е така просто да ни кажат, че им е тъпо без нас. Просто е така. Мисля и не спирам да плача. И не, времето усилва болката, прави я по-плътна, по-огромна, без всички вас, които сте там някъде горе. Дано всичко е наред, където и да сте. А Zakk Wylde и емоционалното му изпълнение на "In This River", посветено на Dimebag Darrell, e точно нещото което докосва и кара към тези мои искрени, дълбоки емоции. Мисля и не спирам да плача. Това е за всички хора, които по някакъв начин са минали през живота ми и са оставили спомени, приятели, докоснали ме с изкуството си и вече ги няма тук. Дядо никога няма да те забравя. Липсваш ни. Просто не мога да излезна от ритъма, старата тръпка Antipop Consortium е по-силна от всякога. А "Shine" се очертава да се слуша много, много дълго време, просто космично много време. Изобщо, целият "Fluorescent Black" от 2009 година е неудържимо здрав hip-hop албум, разбира се, с всички electro, абстрактности, и хващащи "кукички", просто уникалния Antipop Consortium стил. А за какво ти казвам всичко това ли, ами защото, това са едни много подценявани артисти, и не заслужават пренебрегване. И не, за да не остават погрешно разбрани мислите ми. Нямам нищо против добре направената, повтарям отново, добре направената pop музика. В основата си, важно е музиката да въздейства, а когато тя е хубава, емоционално наситена, въздействието се случва. Песента е много "филмова", а има и трилър в историята зад текста. Мисля си, че скоро трябва да пиша за тези неподражаеми MC-та, и за тяхната музика. Предлагам ти малко извадки от текста на "Shine": "Shine till they blind. Go let it shine." - много стабилно, водещо мото, мен ако питаш; "Disrespect to the face they can't see." - още едно силно заключение, напоено със смисъл. Да, освен да слушаш музиката, силно препоръчително е да се вслушваш в текста, там се крие смисъла. А какъв е той? Открий го сам. Аз го открих за себе си. А ако Warp Records и Ninja Tune не ти говорят нищо, това не е добре, е, точно тия момчета, имат издадени албуми през тези два емблематични лейбъла, а за да съм по-прецизен, през едно от подразделенията на Ninja Tune, а именно Big Dada Recordings. И са много добри в това което правят. И за да не говоря безцелно, ето, опитай се да се върнеш на земята, ако можеш. Чувствай се предупреден, и скачай в ритъма. "Shine" е голяма "кука". Is There Anybody Out There? - I'm Not There (English)

For some time this is the song. The version that made Sonic Youth is somehow a bit darker, bemused, than the original of the great, unique (yes, you read correctly) Bob Dylan. Perfect composition, just does not want to go out of my head, and I'm not sure, that I want to let her go. Why not, to let her "grow", what is better than one composition to become part of you, so somehow, like that, by itself, at once, without asking you. I think that you know, what this is about - the real thing remains true, forever, and sometimes back to touch you, because you need them.
